Following a suggestion from Vasstel, our young people’s group, the Swiis Leeds office took 30 young people to Treetopnets for an amazing tree top adventure day. Set in mature native woodland, the venue has lots of giant trampolines, walkways, slides and tunnels all made out of netting, safely suspended between trees up to 12m off the ground! Unlike traditional high rope courses, we were completely surrounded by 3m high walls of netting, meaning we were always safe and didn’t need harnesses.
The day was physically active, with lots of walking, climbing, rolling, bouncing, sliding and running.
Everyone had a great day, despite being very tired by the end!
Coming along to activities we arrange gives foster carers the opportunity to meet other carers in a fun, social environment. The activities aim to provide children and young people with new, positive experiences, and gives them the opportunity to learn new skills and make new friends. We know these opportunities are very important for looked after young people – our fostering outcomes reflect the positive effect days like this have on young people.
Here in Yorkshire, we pride ourselves on being a fostering community – supporting one another is very important. Fostering has its ups and downs for everyone involved, including the children and young people, but coming together on days like these are special. We pride ourselves in creating special memories for all.
Becoming a foster carer opens lots of doors, and creates lots of opportunities. Making new friends is one of them. Our activities help to achieve this.
