From face painting to a rodeo bull; and magic tricks to Disney princesses, Education Adviser Jonathan Ord tells us about some of the amazing and fun activities that took place on 30th May for the North East’s ‘30th on the 30th’ Swiis birthday party.
“After all the planning and preparation, notably by our fabulous Placement Support Workers Gill, Laura and Rachel, the day had finally arrived. Belmont Community Centre had been transformed with balloons, glitter and table decorations into a wonderful venue for the Swiis 30th anniversary party. As always, our children, young people and foster carers supported the event, we had well over 70 party guests on the day, which was fantastic!
When it came to the celebrations, the rodeo bull was an immediate hit. The children, young people, foster carers and staff queued up to jump on, but mostly fall off, the bull. A few rain showers could not dampen the fun and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Following the exertions there was a chance for some light relief with the arrival of entertainer Tommy Taylor. He proved to be very popular with a mixture of games, magic and balloons. After this, there was the opportunity to grab some food. The Swiis cupcakes were extremely popular, so much so that we had to open the reserve box to meet demand.
From there, we were delighted to welcome three Disney princesses; Ailsa, Ariel and Moana. They all joined in the fun and were happy to talk to the young people, as well as take part in the dancing games and painting some of the young people’s (and at least one staff member’s) nails.
No birthday party would be complete without a birthday cake and the finale of the party was this being brought into the party room by the princesses. After a rousing rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ to Swiis it was time to depart and look forward to the next event.
As always, a huge thank you to the children, young people, foster carers and staff who helped to make his happen.”
