Staff, foster carers, children, young people and extended family members all arrived at Flamingo Land to enjoy a fun-filled day out. The day had been arranged as part of the Leeds Yorkshire Office’s summer participation days and was a great chance for everyone to get together. Placement Support Worker, Alison Strodder-Murphy relives the day.
The weather on the day was a lot cooler than we have seen in previous weeks, so it made for perfect weather conditions. 57 excited people made the trip to a very busy Flamingo Land. Some chose to relax, others enjoyed the zoo and play areas, while others chose to get on as many rides as possible.
For one young person, it was their first visit to a theme park, so they were very excited to experience something they had only seen advertised on TV.
There were some very brave young people and foster carers who braved the bigger rides and plenty who braved the water rides. We salute you after seeing how soaked you were after -it made the rest of us think twice about going on.
Four young people were very dedicated and queued two hours to get on one ride. They did amazing to have the patience to wait in the queue for so long. The four of them smiled all the way to the top of the ride. It was great to hear after how much the wait for the ride had been worth it.
Finally, well done to Debra, our office manager who braved going on a ride, despite being adamant she would not go on one.
Everyone agreed that the favourite rides of the day were Mumbo Jumbo and Kumali. Thank you to all that attended, from all of us at the Leeds Yorkshire team. Thank you to Mark Crane, Admissions Manager at Flamingo Land for his help prior to us all arriving.
