The North West foster care service was founded in October 2000 and based in Manchester. An additional office in Lancashire was set up in 2010 and is home to our Lancashire-based foster care support workers. They work tirelessly to provide excellent foster homes for children and young people, enabling them to be cared for and encouraged to reach their full potential.
Becoming a foster carer is a life-changing experience. We appreciate it is a big decision to make and we are here to provide exceptional support through a dedicated team of Midlands foster care specialists. Swiis provides carers with the highest quality training and resources to develop their knowledge and skills.
If you become a Swiis foster carer, you will receive a competitive fostering allowance, paid weekly, directly into your bank account. Swiis is one of the most generous and competitive agencies in the market because we recognise the exceptional value that our carers bring to the children and young people they look after.
We hold support groups for carers on a bi-monthly basis, including two ‘Forward Together’ groups. Our ‘Forward Together’ groups give looked after young people aged 13+ a chance to share their experiences of fostering and to join in with activities focussing on developing self-esteem and independence.
We also have a COFC (Children of Foster Carers) group which meets regularly throughout the year. This activity-based group offers support to the children of foster carers, giving them the chance to interact with peers who are also part of fostering families and to address issues for children and young people with regards to fostering. The group is open to all children of foster carers aged 7+.
Every year we host a fun day for all our carers, children and young people, including a variety of activities and games, as well as a BBQ. We also have an annual Christmas party, open to all carers, children and young people. These events give our carers, their families and the Swiis staff a chance to interact and socialise with each other, as well as sharing their fostering experiences.
Young people who have left Swiis Foster Care are encouraged to stay in touch with us and some go on to help with ‘Moving Forward’ workshops, sharing their experiences with young people about the reality of moving on and living independently.
