Hi, we’re Diane and Jim

This is our Fostering Story

Diane and Jim have been Swiis Foster Carers since 2008. They have 1 birth son and currently look after a teenager. Diane shares her experience of fostering.

Their fostering journey in numbers

It’s sad seeing them move on but it’s also exciting to see them flourish and gain their independence.

“After working for Ladbrokes for years, I wanted a change in career. Jim and I had thought about fostering for a while, he was fostered as a child too, so he wanted to help children in a similar position to his. Our family and friends were really supportive of our decision to foster, offering help when needed.

Giving the children that security and making them feel safe brings such a warm feeling. Seeing them happy is very rewarding. It’s lovely to be able to give a young person the ability to look after themselves, be independent in the future and steer them in the right direction.

It’s sad seeing them move on but it’s also exciting to see them flourish and gain their independence. We had a 21-year-old and 18-year-old who have gone on to great things. The 18-year-old is currently working in America and doing great, she calls us to keep us up to date on her adventures.
For those considering fostering, I would say really pay attention to the training that Swiis offers. Think about all the backgrounds that the children can come from and make the right decision for you.”
