Cate and Becky’s fostering story – Darlington
Cate and Becky were approved as Swiis foster carers in 2007. Cate is the main carer and Becky is currently in full-time employment, however she continues to play an active part in the fostering role. The couple have been together for a number of years and confirmed their commitment in 2011 with a civil partnership. They live together with their dogs, chickens and tortoise in a converted farmhouse on the outskirts of a major conurbation in the North East.
Cate and Becky have cared for a number of young people, as individuals and as part of a sibling group. They have cared for a range of ages, from toddlers to teenagers, with a diverse spectrum of needs, including significant physical and learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. They are a dedicated couple who will go the ‘extra mile’ to get the best for young people in their care. They are both very active and will happily encourage any young person to join them in keeping fit.
Cate and Becky support and promote any existing interests that children and young people may have. They have substantial experience of supporting and promoting frequent and complex contact arrangements. Cate and Becky are a very welcoming couple and are excellent role models for young people with a real ‘can do’ approach.
