Our last two family participation events of 2017 for the Swiis South Foster Care office took place in Devon and Wiltshire. Family participation days are a fantastic way for our foster carers to get to know each other and for our children and young people to interact with each other.
On the 21st December, we invited foster carers and young people to join us for a lunch at Coal Grill and Bar in Exeter. Once there, we feasted on chicken wings, tacos and other spicy food, and then ended the meal with a lot of ice cream! It was lovely seeing everyone, and being able to catch up with them before the Christmas break. After we had all feasted on the food, we moved onto the second part of the day – a visit to the local cinema to watch the film ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’. Everyone really enjoyed the funny film and there was a lot of laughter throughout the showing.
For our final participation event on the 22nd December, a group of 30 people went to Longleat Safari Park to visit the Festival of Light and all the other attractions available at Longleat. Everyone had different highlights off the day, but ranking highly were the pesky monkeys eating the washers off cars, getting lost in the mirror maze, meeting up with other families and, of course, seeing the fabulous lights and lanterns. After the day out at Longleat, one carer said it had been the best day out they had had as a family since they started fostering. The Festival of Light had been requested as a participation event by many families over the past year, and we are glad everyone enjoyed it so much – we certainly did!
Thank you to everyone who attended the events for the Swiis South region office throughout 2017. We look forward to trying out new activities with you this year!
